LG Voyager in Titanium for Verizon Wireless A Nifty Touch Screen & a QWERTY Keyboard Inside
I have to say I liked this phone before I turned it on. Being a sucker for gadgets I fell for the large external touch screen. Then I opened the Voyager up and saw the QWERTY keyboard. The LG Voyager is an almost complete answer when it comes to those of us who want to carry one item to do everything. This phone even has a TV antenna! I am sorry if I seem too much in awe before even working with this phone but I promise I will get down to business.

Looking at the phone I think the “In Titanium” tag is a little overstated as the only part of the phone that looks like “Titanium” is the Silver rim around the upper half of the phone. That is a more cosmetic item than anything that adds or detracts from the Voyager functions. When I turned on the phone the 2.81” external touch screen was very easy to read. I changed the external display backlight to 30 seconds as 15 was way to short for me. Then set the Keypad lighting from 7 to 15. These and other personal changes I make on any phone will cut battery time but I like the extra time.
Navigation: The LG Voyager in Titanium has a tactile response with a vibration below your finger when you press down on the screen. It lets you know you have actually pressed hard enough to perform the task. Tapping anywhere on the empty area of the external touch screen will bring up the shortcut menu icons. These Icons can be relocated on the menu screen by dragging them from place to place. When you are happy just touch “SET.” It is easy to bring these back to the default placements by touching “Default.”
At the bottom of the screen is a menu bar that includes four frequently used items. Messaging & Voicemail, Dial Pad for making calls (access to contacts is also right there), Four dots that give you access to a lesser number of menu items on one screen, and a Contacts button to go directly to your address list. Of course we have the ubiquitous LOCK/UNLOCK button to keep you from accidentally activating the touch screen. The lock can be unlocked by using the Unlock Button on the left side of the phone. I do find all touch screens hard to get used to. The vibration helps. However the QWERTY keyboard is where I did almost all text entering. It just works best for me. The Touch Screen is great for moving between functions and setup.
Open the Voyager in Titanium and you see a really neat QWERTY keyboard and a brilliant color screen (Not a touch screen.) It is possible to open the entire phone so it lies flat on a desk. It took a little getting used to the two SPACE buttons on the left and right side of the lowest row of keys. I would have preferred one larger SPACE key in the center of that row instead. Other than that the QWERTY Keyboard and accompanying internal screen are comfortable to work with.
Camera/Video/ Music The camera/video features in this phone are very similar to those mentioned in the LG Decoy review I completed several days ago. Two Mega Pixels provide good stills and OK videos in full light but do poorly in low light conditions. (See Samples On Flickr) I found the videos do not transfer well to YouTube or Flickr as they are small and YouTube/Flickr display them in a bigger size that smears the video. I guess you can convert them prior to placing them online but I elected not to post them. The music capability is quite good. Bluetooth works well for wireless headsets. The 2.5 mm headset jack precludes the use of 3.5 mm sets unless you purchase an adaptor. Basic Live Video was included in the test LG Titanium but even with the antenna up there was no reception. I assume that Key West is not activated at this time. If that service is important to you I suggest you check availability in your area before taking the plunge. Verizon VCAST VIDEO worked well. Rhapsody and Verizon team up provide a comprehensive music library for a price. The Voyager includes MicroSD Storage capability up to 8 GIG.
Visual Voice Mail This service requires a subscription and a $2.99 per month fee. It requires your password so the world can’t access your messages. A list of your voicemails come up on the exterior or interior screen and they can be played, erased, archived, or called back from either screen. This saves you the effort of calling your voicemail account.
